Denise loves to visit secondary schools around Ireland.
She can: give creative writing workshops,
do Q&A sessions about the life of a writer, what to do now if you want to be a writer, etc
run a book club where students read Denise’s books in advance and ask questions about character, plot etc.
or all of the above!
Teachers and librarians interested in learning more can contact Denise’s publisher, Hachette Ireland on 01 8246288, ask for Joanna. If you are a student who would like a visit, the best route is to ask your English teacher, school librarian or TY co-ordinator.
Denise also takes part in the Writer’s in Schools scheme – www.poetryireland/eduction/writers-in-schools.html

Hello, my name is Elizabeth Kiernan, I’m 16, from Dublin and in transition year the same as Alex in And By The Way…
I have just finished reading that book, which has shown to me by a friend. While my friend is reading your next book – And For Your Information… I’m eager to know if there will be another book after.
My friend and I don’t read. I know, it’s terrible but we can never find an interesting enough book to make us want to pick up and read again or constantly thinking what’s going to happen. Until my friend got a present of your first book out of A Butterfly Novel. She told me how amazing it was and I couldn’t believe it untill I read it myself. I read the book in 5 days, and I’m a slow reader it normally takes me months to finish a book. But I just couldn’t put the book down.
I smiled, cried and laughed. I don’t think I’ve ever been so attached to a piece of writing. My friend is telling me that the book to follow is just as good and is getting through it quick, but won’t tell me a thing about it because I want to read it for myself.
I just hope that you keep on writing books for teenagers because you know exactly how we think, and also how we act. I’ve learned many lessons from reading the book and I hope to learn more.
Yours sincerely
Elizabeth Kiernan
Elizabeth, I am so glad you got in touch. it means so much to hear what you have to say and it is SO wonderful to know that my writing has had that affect on you. What a great friend you have to introduce you to the books and then to keep the next story from you even though she must have been dying to share it. I love writing for teenagers because I think like one. Once, I was talking to a class of teenagers. I was talking about dialogue. I was trying to say that adults speak differently to teenagers. What I said was, ‘Adults speak differently to US.’ When I realized what I said, I burst out laughing. As did everyone else. Anyway, I am so so glad that you love the books as much as I love writing them. Yes, there’s going to be a third book from Rachel’s point of view. It’s called And Actually… and it should be in the shops in September. xxx }I{
